This comprehensive empirical research project investigates the multifaceted lived experiences, structural challenges, and upward mobility of Indonesian migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. Moving beyond single-dimensional narratives, the study establishes a balanced dual-pillar framework analyzing both systemic vulnerabilities (such as contractual discrepancies, dispute dynamics, and social stigmas) and positive empowerment outcomes (such as cross-cultural bonding, financial independence, and higher education).
Grounded in an integrated mixed-methods approach—combining quantitative statistical data from structured surveys with deep qualitative insights from multi-chapter case chronicles—the research captures the realities of overseas domestic labor from grassroots perspectives. The upcoming monograph and research portfolio systematically explore:
Empirical Survey & Data Analytics: Comprehensive mapping of migrant demographics, working conditions, education access, and institutional evaluations.
Thematic Case Chronicles: In-depth qualitative case studies spanning educational mobilization, legal dispute resolutions, financial accumulation, agency challenges, and community support networks.
Institutional & Psychological Synthesis: Critical analysis of high-stress household dynamics, legal frameworks, NGO data integration, and policy recommendations for bilateral labor welfare.
Scheduled for completion in March 2027, this monograph serves as an empirical foundation for advanced research in International Relations and Migration Sociology.
